I don’t have words to describe quite how wonderful this book is. More fable than tale it tells the story of the relationship between a fox and a star. It is a story of love, separation and inner strength – so simple and so beautifully told. Poetry in prose and illustrations that take the breath away, it is a parable that all of us can relate to, making it that most rare delight which adults will want to read again and again.
It was originally published last year in an exquisite hardback, but knowing that it would be stained with marmite within days of coming home with me, I resigned myself to cooing over it in a corner of the bookshop. And then yesterday I spotted it – the softcover, picture book version! Just as beautiful but infinitely more child friendly. I have yet to read it to the kids though. I want to keep those intricate pages pristine a while longer.
